Did you know that October is Women’s Small Business month? I know the month is over, but it’s never too late to celebrate, right? Since I’ve started this blog I’ve worked with so many smart, funny, motivated, intelligent, bad-ass, girl bosses. A majority of the women who do what we do work extremely hard to grow and develop their brand, and small business.
If you’re like me you may have thought that the business market is filled with a ton of kick-ass girl bosses. However, women owned businesses only makeup 4% of the national revenue. This could be due to unequal access to business financing.
You guys, this sucks! But no need to trip ladies! Why? Because we can help close the gender gap in entrepreneurial financing the same way we can close the wage gap. By speaking up! Men tend to receive a higher amount in financing than women simply because on average they ask for more money!
So what we need to do is know our worth, know and understand the worth of our brand, and demand more! We may not be able to fix every aspect of this disparity, but we have to start somewhere!
So, have any of you ladies requested a small business loan? What was the process like? Do you feel that you were treated fairly? Do you think you got the amount you deserved? Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
